Strengthened Faith – The Tsui Family
What a year it has been for our family. It has been so tough for everyone worldwide, so how do we strengthen our faith through these storms? How do we keep our family strong and trusting in God? To me it feels like when I am at my lowest, that’s when God steps in.
When schools first closed last year, I had a strong feeling I should take the kids home to see my family in the UK. After we’d been there for a month Hudson’s job was made redundant for the very first time. Hudson flew to the UK so we could be together. This would set in motion a chain of events that would protect my sister and her friends.
When my younger sister was born in the late 1970s with Down’s Syndrome, the doctor suggested that my parents have her adopted as they already had two daughters. However, they put their faith in God and took her home. In her mid-thirties, my parents found a wonderful Christian residential home for my sister to live in, but the waiting list was long. After five+ years of waiting and praying she moved there. God was faithful to my parents throughout her life. They often say to me, “God has looked after her all these years, he’s not going to stop now!”.
When we were in the UK we planned to visit my sister at her home, but they were concerned as Hudson would have just travelled from HK. They, therefore, consulted a doctor and put into place an early plan for the pandemic. Some other families had travelled to Europe and were asked to cancel their upcoming visits to the residents. We ultimately saw her before Hudson arrived to keep all of the residents safe. Because of this early planning, her care home has stayed healthy and safe, their early planning protected them throughout this past year.
The long months that Hudson looked for a new job were difficult and stressful. We cut back in every way we could. Although the quality time together as a family of four was very precious. God was faithful, in November Hudson started a new and even better job. Jacob and Lucy saw how hard Hudson worked to secure that job and how faithful God was. Something I hope they will always remember, not just the scrimping and saving which they didn’t enjoy!
When I look back, I can see that our six week trip to the UK and Hudson’s redundancy were part of God’s bigger picture, it would be the last time I saw my family for a very long time, and it protected my sister and her friends.
I pray that for all of us as we live through life’s storms, that our faith is strengthened, not just for us but for our whole family.
May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
And your family and your children
And their children, and their children
“The Blessing”
